It just seems like, sometimes that diverse books about disabled characters, or books about mental illness are not talked about as often as books with POC or LGBTQ+ rep. *I love Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda and Love, Simon with ALL MY HEART, it means so much to me, but that is NOT the epitome of LGBTQ+ books and that’s that □□♀️ Reading books with bi, pan, trans, non-binary, asexual/aromantic characters! Including queer POC! Queer & disabled! Queer with mental illness! All the intersectional identities!Īnd that’s only talking about one portion of diverse books! People out here reading one popular coming out story of a gay white boy* and think that’s supporting LGBTQIA+ books, or even diverse books as a whole? Sure that’s great if you’re starting out, but your support should include so much more. What I feel like often happens, is that certain “types”, for lack of a better word, of diverse books get more attention than others. However, what I wanted to look at is WHAT KIND of diverse books are getting talked about! Because “diverse” is a very large umbrella term!! That encompasses: POC, Native, LGBTQ+, mental illness, disabled, ethnic, cultural and religious minorities… and within each of those, there are SO MANY different populations. (Also, here’s your reminder that diverse books are not a trend, or a genre, or anything of that sort! They are HERE TO STAY and they deserve to be present across ALL genres (and audiences, though that’s another beast). They’re important, they reflect our beautifully diverse world, and they tell stories which FINALLY focus on having marginalized people be the forefront just as much as the typical, allocishet white characters.Īnd personally, I believe everyone should be an advocate for diverse books! If you’re NOT a supporter of diverse books, I highly recommend you take a step back and reevaluate your values and how you see the world because… yikes. As a small business owner I definitely know that things come up and we need to shift our schedules! I would notice the pattern and change your approach to your box if you can I would curate your boxes 1 -2 months ahead of time.In case you’re new here… Hi! I love boosting and advocating for diverse books!! Medical issues, publisher issues, USPS, COVID, lots of reasons for delays. *UPDATE - Delayed again* Reading through reviews I see that a lot of boxes were delayed dating back to 2018 for why different boxes were delayed in shipping. The 3rd box has not arrived, it is February 18th so we shall see. The second box was a January box and did not arrive until February 16th and did not include any candles or book swag, unless a sticker counts and two starbursts. I signed up for a 3 month subscription, the first box I received on time and was well done, but the candle burned super quick, low quality candle & treats. If you can execute this consistently, this has the potential to be an amazing box. Previous Review: 2* Overall 1* Shipping 2* Quality of Products 2* Curation You have a great foundation for the box, I love that you're doing author letters and have the intention of including book swag and candles. It looks like the website was updated for a more accurate description of the varient in boxes from month to month and the shipping date was listed later in the month. UPDATED March 2021: Third box was a hit!! (I was on a three month prepay).
